Just days before a special weekend midnight joint legislative session at the State House on public transportation, Peter Picknelly made the argument to Governor Baker “not to rush into East-West subsidized rail service in competition with already established InterCity Bus routes”.  The legislature was deciding whether to fund a full-scale rail study as part of the end of the fiscal year session’s new funding bills.

Picknelly makes some excellent points, including the possibility of expanding express bus routes and HOV lanes, as well as the hundreds of good union jobs that such rail subsidies would negatively affect.  Click here for details: Governor Baker listens in part to Peter Picknelly

Ca. bus crash involving highway pole

ca bus crashAug. 2, 2016

A Mexico motorcoach traveling from Mexico to Washington State went off the highway, and was sliced by a highway pole reminiscent of the tragedy in New Rochelle, NY five years ago. Five passengers were fatally injured, many more seriously injured, including the driver. The white painted bus “Autobuses Coordinados USA” veered off the road a little after 3:00 AM this morning. It appears the driver was about to be relieved in Livingston, Ca. by a relief driver. He either failed to negotiate an early ramp (Liberty Ave, Exit 200), or exited the roadway one mile short of his designated route (Hammatt Ave, Exit 201) when the accident happened. New PABT terminal location under protest

July 27, 2016

The Port Authority Bus Terminal’s decision to award a design contract based on a new location: 38th to 40th St./Ninth Ave to 11 Avenue, has recently drawn stiff opposition from local Hell’s Kitchen residents and community leaders. Although the PABT has theoretically agreed to $10 Billion for the new terminal, it may be a pipe dream, if local officials succeed in halting this important improvement to the InterCity bus and Commuter bus infrastructure of New York City.
